Chinatown Complex Food Centre

About

Singapore's largest hawker centre with over 260 stalls. Home to the world's cheapest Michelin-starred meal.

Famous For

Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle β€” world's first street food to receive a Michelin star

πŸ“– The Story

Singapore's largest hawker centre with over 260 stalls, the Chinatown Complex is a living document of Chinese immigrant food culture. Built in 1983 as part of the HDB Chinatown redevelopment, it replaced the street hawkers who had fed the area's Hokkien, Cantonese and Teochew communities for generations. In 2016, Chan Hon Meng's humble soya sauce chicken stall became the first street food in the world to receive a Michelin Star β€” making a $2 plate of chicken rice the cheapest Michelin meal on Earth. The queue that formed the next day stretched around the block and has barely shortened since.
