Must Try

A hidden gem loved by locals — away from the tourist trail but packed with excellent food at very reasonable prices.
One of the best satay stalls in Singapore — locals drive across the island just for this.
ABC Brickworks takes its name from the brick kilns that once operated along the Alexandra Canal — a reminder that this part of Singapore was industrial long before it was residential. The hawker centre grew organically from the surrounding Bukit Merah community, a neighbourhood of old HDB blocks and longtime residents who have strong opinions about where to eat and even stronger opinions about where not to. The satay stall here has built a following that crosses postal codes. No marketing. No Michelin. Just charcoal, skewers, and the kind of queue that forms because people genuinely cannot stay away.
✨ Vibe: Off the tourist map, deep on the locals' radar

2000s

2020

ABC Satay
Charcoal SatayThe stall that built the centre's reputation. Beef, chicken, and mutton skewers over real charcoal, peanut sauce made fresh daily. No Michelin star, no Instagram fame — just the queue that forms every evening without fail.
Brickworks BBQ Chicken Wings
BBQ Chicken WingsMarinated in a dark soy and spice blend, grilled until the edges catch and caramelise. The kind of wings that make people order doubles before they've finished the first round.
ABC Carrot Cake
Carrot CakeBoth white and black versions, fried individually to order. The black version is stickier, richer, and the one regulars always choose. A neighbourhood benchmark that holds its own against any famous stall.
Worth the trek away from the tourist areas. This is where locals actually eat. Very affordable and no tourists.
