About

A legendary hawker centre that locals consider one of the best in Singapore. Massive, buzzing and packed with heritage stalls.

Famous For

One of Singapore's largest and oldest hawker centres β€” over 150 stalls with multiple Michelin-recognised hawkers

πŸ“– The Story

Built in 1973 on the site of Singapore's first civilian airport, Old Airport Road Food Centre carries history in its very address. The Kallang Airport opened in 1937 and was the pride of British colonial Singapore β€” by 1973 it had been replaced by Paya Lebar Airport and the old terminal demolished. The hawker centre that rose in its place became legendary for different reasons: over 150 stalls, multiple Michelin-recognised hawkers, and a reputation among serious food people as the single best hawker centre in Singapore. It is never the most famous but consistently the most respected.

Legendary Stalls

  • Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee

    Char Kway Teow

Michelin Bib Gourmand. The uncle fries one or two portions at a time, refuses to compromise on wok hei. Queues begin before the stall opens.

  • Toa Payoh Lor Mee

    Lor Mee

Thick starchy gravy, braised pork, fish cake and vinegar. One of the most underrated dishes in Singapore done at its absolute best.

  • Hua Kee Chicken Wings

    BBQ Chicken Wings

Marinated overnight and grilled to order. The skin is lacquered, the meat stays juicy. Locals drive from across the island specifically for these.
